Early Detection Saves Lives
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a powerful reminder of the importance of proactive healthcare and early detection. At Heritage Health, we are deeply committed to the wellness of our community—and that includes raising awareness about breast cancer and the life-saving importance of regular screenings.
Why Early Detection Matters
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide. However, when caught early, it is also one of the most treatable. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.
Early detection can mean the difference between a manageable treatment plan and a life-threatening situation. That’s why we strongly encourage regular mammograms, clinical breast exams, and self-checks.

Know the Signs of Breast Cancer
While regular screenings are essential, it's also important to be aware of the warning signs of breast cancer, which may include:
A new lump or mass in the breast or underarm
Changes in the size or shape of the breast
Skin dimpling or puckering
Nipple discharge other than breast milk
Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast
If you notice any of these changes, don’t wait. Don't be afraid, reach out to your healthcare provider to further understand your situation.
