David Atkins
Chief Behavioral Health Officer
David Atkins has worked at Heritage Health since moving to the area in 2015.
His approach to patient care recognizes the importance of addressing both mental and physical concerns to achieve whole-person health while minimizing the use of medications.
He is an active member of the Region 1 Behavioral Health Board and North Idaho Crisis Center Board of Directors, plus participates in legislative workgroups related to medical practice in Idaho. Prior to joining Heritage, he worked in primary care, neurology, mental health counseling, and pharmaceutical research.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from the College of Idaho, he received master’s degrees in Counseling (Boise State) and Physician Assistant Studies (Idaho State).
David also earned his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, with a focus on healthcare administration and psychiatric collaborative care. He was granted psychiatric specialty certification from the NCCPA in 2018. Originally from southern Idaho, David enjoys exploring the diverse landscapes of North Idaho with his wife and two children.
