David Atkins

David Atkins, DMSc, PA-C, is the Medical Director of the Psychiatry program at Heritage Health, where he has practiced since 2015. His clinical philosophy centers on whole-person health—addressing mental and physical concerns together while minimizing reliance on medications.

David brings an unusually broad clinical foundation to his work, with prior experience spanning primary care, neurology, mental health counseling, and pharmaceutical research. This cross-disciplinary background informs his integrative, collaborative approach to psychiatric care.

He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and biology from the College of Idaho, a master's degree in Counseling from Boise State University, and a master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Idaho State University. He earned his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, concentrating in healthcare administration and integrating psychiatric collaborative care into Primary Care. In 2018, he received psychiatric specialty certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
