David Atkins has worked at Heritage Health since moving to the area in 2015.  His approach to patient care recognizes the importance of addressing both mental and physical concerns to achieve whole-person health while minimizing the use of medications.  He is an active member of the Region 1 Behavioral Health Board and North Idaho Crisis Center Board of Directors, plus participates in legislative workgroups related to medical practice in Idaho. Prior to joining Heritage, he worked in primary care, neurology, mental health counseling, and pharmaceutical research.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from the College of Idaho, he received master’s degrees in Counseling (Boise State) and Physician Assistant Studies (Idaho State). David also earned his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, with a focus on healthcare administration and psychiatric collaborative care. He was granted psychiatric specialty certification from the NCCPA in 2018. Originally from southern Idaho, David enjoys exploring the diverse landscapes of North Idaho with his wife and 2 young children.

Originally from San Diego, Laura has lived in Seattle, Boise, and Utah.  She has lived in eastern WA since 2006.

Laura works as one of our nurse practitioners in Psych services.  She obtained her BA in English from BYU, and her BS and DNP from Washington State University.

“I am fascinated by the body and how it works.  I saw many family members have significant improvement in their mental health with access to treatment.” Her patient style is one of positivity and educating her patients.  “I feel it is very important to educate patients so they can make informed decisions.”

In her free time she loves to run, read, paddle board and spend time with her 4 children.  Laura has run 10 marathons and is in training for her 11th.

Kimberly is a LCPC and works as an Addiction Counselor for our Restored Paths program.  She earned her M. ED Counseling and Human Services through the University of Idaho in 2006.  Her specialties include substance abuse disorder, behavioral health, and EMDR certified, Idaho Supreme Court approved Domestic Violence Evaluator and IBOL approved Clinical Supervisor.

When outside of work, Kimberly enjoys Skiing/Snowboarding, boating in the summer and spending time with her husband and two sons.
